Cymatics is the study of how vibration can shape matter. If a thin disc has random grains of sand placed on it, and then that disc is made to vibrate by musical notes or sound frequencies, the sand will become arranged into patterns. 

The patterns will vary according to what musical pitch is vibrating it. The sand will begin to form botanical shapes, geometric shapes, floral shapes, and even shapes of living creatures such as dragon flies. 

What is really interesting, is that it has been studied and when Pythagorean Tuning notes are used, the sand will arrange itself into perfect geometrical shapes. Not so with frequencies that come from 440 hertz tuning.
